Coyotes picked of most my pullets; right when they started laying. They are actually my daughters built a coop and run for her this summer. I left the door open one day last week when it 40 and was a mistake. Got some year old Isa browns to get me by till I get her some chicks. I got them for 4 bucks a piece. Half of them laid eggs first day.

Sorry for your & your daughters loss. I don't know how big your coop is but, keep in mind integrating chicks in with adult hens can be tough. Most find it works better if you wait until the chicks are the same size as the adult birds and they are divided by a fence for a week or so.

There roughly 8 months and my replacements are a year old. 10 eggs out of the 18 newbies. They come from some Amish folks. Never had a light in coop. Interesting to see them laying that many a day after a move.
