It actually is against federal law to deface any coins. I found this out when I put a nickle on the RR tracks to be flattened. Now back to the hawks and their laws.

And it would be in awful poor taste considering Lincoln is on the penny......

I too have had trouble with coyotes getting into my Cornish-X range pens. I am sorry for your loss. But it is very important to remember that COYOTES ARE VALUABLE members of the food chain. The coyote does far more good than harm by keeping rodents under control. Even though it was hard for me to loose five birds to a coyote I decided the fault lied with my not providing a coop secure enough to protect my birds. After doing a bunch of research I concluded that an electric fence is the best means to keep coyotes at bay. I attached wire onto the top doors of my coop and installed a small battery powered charger. In order to chew on or open the door the coyotes must touch the fence. Two nights after installing the fence I heard the distinct loud yelp of a dog (I'm assuming a coyote) and saw tracks in the dirt by one of my coops. The coyotes haven't returned. I am assuming the same works for racoons as I had trouble with them as well but now have none. The charger I use is small and cheap and works great! You can get it at Amazon here. I hope this helps! If you want me to post some pics let me know. I think I have some. Good luck!

Before building my coop I set up trailcams to see what was out there. I caught on camera raccoons, foxes, opossums and coyotes, and built my run/coop safe enough to withstand any attacks. I found out staples don't work for hardware cloth. Luckily, I found out before the coyotes did. Instead of screws, I nailed a board over the staples. I'll try to post a pict tomorrow.

Heck I never thought of using pennies. I bought washers and they were expensive. I have to check and do the math. Thanks for the idea.

We have coyotes really bad around my place. I have a 2 X 4 welded wire fence around my new chicken barn. I have lost a lot of guineas to coyotes, they will wipe you out.

well i have my best flock of games in that good coop. i mean maybe a bear could get in that sucker.
