Coyote tried to take one

Hi all,

A coyote just grabbed my GLW but I hit him with a shovel and he dropped her. I can't find any external injuries just a lot of lost feathers. She won't stand and lays on her side. Her legs aren't broken but she has them stretched out behind her. I don't feel any broken bones in her body. Her eyes are open and she's making small groaning sounds occasionally. I think she's in shock. Is there anything I can do for her besides keep her quiet with food and water? I think I broke the coyote's leg or hip because he was dragging it as he ran away.

I was around the corner and I guess he didn't see me he was so interested in the chickens. I heard the chickens panic and I grabbed the first thing handy. He was facing away from me when I came around the corner and hit him with the shovel. Coyotes out here are fearless. His two buddied bolted when he yelped. I think I broke his leg.

all i can say is OMG!...you are lucky it didnt attack!..and there were 3 of them also!...

...be careful now..they will be back again...

..poor chickie!..i dont know what to say...is she bleeding?...i'd just let her rest,.

... maybe try to get some sugar water in her?...sorry this happend!

This is the first attack since I finished the run. I let them out to free range when I'm outside because I didn't think the coyotes would come that close if they saw a person. I don't think they saw me this time. Before the run was finished the took 6 chickens and a duck.

that just sucks!..i have a bad coyote problem here also...so far...

..they havent gotten anything...hows she doing now?

Coyote problems are everywhere.

She's scrunched herself into a corner and every time I check her she tries to hide. Her breathing sounds normal and I checked her vent and mouth for blood in case she has internal injuries. I'm not finding any blood anywhere. Her eyes are clear and she's alert.

i know!..they are getting out of control since the trapping bans...(not that i like trapping..)..but..they are getting so bad everywhere lately!
