Coyotes got my mom’s little dogs!!

So sorry about the dogs...

I second the fence idea, or using a tie out to keep the dog close to the house.

Also, you can litter box train a small dog like that using a plastic litter box and those wee wee pads. Voila...dog never has to go out at all...

My mom’s back door lets out onto an enclosed carport and that is the main reason we haven’t put a fence up for her already; we can’t fence in her carport.

Her front door lets out directly into the yard; I’ll talk to her and see if maybe she would want to put up a small decorative fence around the front door. Something that would look pretty and be just enough to keep a small dog from running off into the woods.

I’m going to wait and see if she asks me to help her find another dog. It will probably take a while for her to get over loosing Lucky and Dobie. If she does I will tell her that we have to figure out a way to keep the little dog from wandering off before we get one.

This is what my sister did with her min. schnauzer because she was disabled and couldn't chase after him. She lived in Fla. with alligators nearby.

That might be something she could try at the front door but with the carport it wouldn't work out back.

Here in the Austin area coyotes have been known to take small pets from their yards in the daytime. I'm not sure what the solution would be. Maybe a cat instead of a dog. Cats do very well without having to go outside. I think the kennel idea might work, or enclosing part of the carport for a doggie pen. Sorry about your mom's dogs.
