is there anything i can do about coyotes? my husband saw one last night and shot at it but didn't hit it. i think there are some more out tonight b/c of how the dogs are barking (they can see both coops from their dog yard).

anything we can do about them?

I'm also interested to know the answer!! We have a coyote den less than 200 yards away, and another not too far.

I think my hubby may get a new shotgun for Father's Day!!

Anyway, we are going to try to have a completely enclosed run, but whenever I tell people this, they snicker and say "Good Luck"

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! We are hoping to get the coop/run set up this weekend!!

sbennett do you live in town or the country?

We're "Newbies" to country living---my neighbor, who's lived here since 1971 is STILL considered one---A N Y W A Y , when I asked about cleaning up the coyotes outside of town (200 population), I was told that if enough people put up the bounty, the high school boys will fix the problem, but they want to be PAID for it.
I was told that usually farmers will foot the bounty, but, if you make it worth their while, it won't be just YOUR problem, anymore.

Hope this helps!

Weird that someone wants money to hunt coyotes.. I've seen ads placed on craigslist in this area by people begging for places to hunt coyotes, free of charge.

If I didn't mind having strangers on my property (leaving gates open, leaving trash, etc) I could probably make some decent side money renting time to coyote hunters..

we're in the country but my husband and i are both out of work so we couldn't afford to pay someone to kill them.

hubby taped a maglite to his shotgun last night, the dogs were going nutso and i thought there was another coyote out there. one got ran over not far from us (1/4 mile maybe). i know he'd be upset if one got his birds.

I was out covering my chicken tractor that house my cornish x tonight and could hear the coyotes howling out back. If I see them I will shoot them but they never come around when I am home.

The only thing you can do about coyotes is have a gun readily prepared. The only good coyote is a dead coyote. There's a range I patrol out here, and if they cross the boundary and are too close to my livestock, they are in big trouble.

I do believe a electric fence around your coop and run will keep them away, but you have to run 3 rows, one low, one in the middle, and one at the top. Some people swear by them... Make it a good one that will really zap them...
