Coyotes

10 minutes ago my pyrenees dogs woke me up and when I went to the back door to see what they were barking at I saw a coyote stalking my yard birds which were already out under the night light catching bugs. I happened to have a .22 rifle in hand and drilled that dude, so the world has one less coyote. These dastardly devils killed about 20 birds this past winter and I never was able to get a shot off at one, I keep my pyrs on chains this time of year or they will destroy my garden so the bold rascal came right up in the yard with both of the dogs barking their heads off and the terrier and dachsund flipping out as well. Sure is satisfying to be able to beat the predator every now and then.

Man, I hear that coyotes are moving closer and closer to the east coast. You be sure to pick every one of those sucker off! I cringe thinking about it!

great job in eliminating a predator, here where i live in ky there is no shortage of coyotes. so far the past few months i have taken out 2 possum a coon also a skunk

I live in Northern Indiana, in corn fields and lake area, and for years ppl have been telling me we have coyotes in the area.
I never believed it until 4 months ago , I was heading to work at 3 in the am, and about hit one 1/4 mile from my house !!!!!!
Kinda freaked me out and I am much more careful with my Jack Russells now being outside.
Glad you got one before they got your birds !!!

What a way to wake up in the morning!!

I always close the pop doors at night. Last night with the storms....that I am sure came through your place first....it was so nasty and the winds so high that I could not get out to put the chickens to bed! I do not sleep well even though the runs are secure and the tops are covered. My DH is working out of town and I have this feeling like I have to protect everything...not scared to shoot....out the bedroom window as the coops are just right there...so I would hear a disturbance. And have.

About two months ago I was washing dishes and staring out the window right in the middle of the afternoon and a coyote came running through my lower yard. I was standing there looking at it. The 22 was right by the door at the other end of the house and I ran and got it and went out the side porch. I knew I could not hit it but I shot at it several times.....just wanted it to know it was not welcome.

The next week I ran into my closest neighbor at the post office. I asked him if he had seen any coyotes. He said he had seen one the week before coming through at a high clip.....I asked if he heard shooting and he did but said he could not get to his gun fast enough. We are all watching for them. I have only seen one once before further down the mountain and it came running across the road when we were going out.

Wish they would move away.....

we have em here in ny. When we lived more in the rural areas, we would have em in the farm fields across the road. Would hear them howling at night when they would all meet up, or made a kill. One morning while getting my daughter ready to go on the bus, a huge one chased a herd of deer out of the woods and just stood there while they all scattered, they are bigger then people think. I often wonder if they come to the more populated areas. I would love to get a couple outdoor night cameras to see the critters that I will be dealling with.

They are like flys here. We have two packs, each with about 15-20 animals within a 1 mile radius of the house. We haven't been shooting them because they deal with the rabbit and prairie dog populations (which are AWEFULL). But next year when we get the chickens, it may be a different story. My dogs (Norwegian Elkhounds) HATE the coyotes. They let me know when the coyotes are near the property. A .223 with scope for the long shots, 12 ga with bb rounds for the closer ones.

I just lost my 2 BCM roos to coyotes then last week my SLW of 8yrs disappeared !

Finally saw them the male is coydog big guy the female has pups Oh Great !! DH got a shot off but just missed ! Tis War for awhile
