So one of my lockdown eggs had developed a crack. It's not in a pip area. It's just below mid line...goes around half the egg. A small chunk of shell also fell off and I can see black feathers no beak ( w the flashlight while in the bator) through the white membrane. I went ahead and put a small piece of damp paper towel over the chunk. What if anything should I do? Btw it's day 21.

It sounds fine. How did the crack get in the egg? Is the the chick moving around at all or peeping? Any effort to get out?

No movement that I can see, no sound. Not sure about how the crack happened. It's a shipped egg so I had it propped up and when my one and only early bird hatched he bumped it over and stepped on it etc. btw early bird is in the brooder now.

Hmmmmm..... Well, since it is day 21, I expect it to be fine, if it's still alive. Keep us posted and feel free to ask some more questions.

Ooh, that's a pretty big crack. That's where the air cell is, I'm pretty sure. So, there is no movement, whatsoever?

The air cell is marked at the top. As far as movement... Can't see any, I don't want to open up the bator for a closer look unless I have to.

Oh, silly me. I thought your outlining of the air cell was the crack.
