Whitey my Brahma mix's beak is cracked. I noticed when I let him out of the Coop this afternoon. He is eating and drinking and didn't Seam to fuss. It is fresh and still a little bloody, raised up a bit.

Should I let it be? Suggestions?

Ouch!

Just like our fingernails, I know how sensitive a crack in it can be. Give him soft foods and I'd apply a topical little dab of antibacterial once a day to ward off infections. Any other males with him? If so, I'd remove him till he is healed.

If his bleeding doesn't stop use a Styptic powder. Or other homeostatic clotting agent.

Good luck.

One of my hens cracked her beak, I'm pretty sure she got it caught in the hardware cloth fence. It took a few weeks, but it grew back good as new. I offered her mush but she kept eating and drinking fine. Just keep an eye on it, good tips here.
