Cracked corn

I’m just wondering how old chicks and ducklings need to be before you can start feeding cracked corn( as a treat)
Myself, I get day old Chicks and I don't offer treats till they are 10 weeks old.
Of course any treats they find themselves when I put them outside at 5 weeks. Like bugs, worms and vegetation is OK.
The only treats I give daily is Scratch Grains that I add a Cardinal seed mix to. I think its healthier than just cracked corn. 20190324_102900.jpg . I toss it on the ground in their pen so they have to search for it. Only two Tablespoons per full size chicken. That's 10% of average feed consumption. They clean it up in 15/20 minutes
They get their veggies, bugs and worms when I let them out an hour before sunset daily, weather permitting. 20190628_201829.jpg . GC

Since this thread is covering treats. I encourage people to remember that chickens are omnivores. So just as a chicken feed is balanced, we should strive for nutritional balance when treating. As nutritious as fruits, vegetables and other greens are, and as much as chickens like scratch grains, don't leave out animal protein. Fish, meat, poultry, crickets, mealworms are all things to consider. I give all the meat and fish table scraps as well as things like turkey carcasses and canned fish. When I trap a raccoon, it gets grilled and fed back to the chickens.
Payback is a b++ch.
