Cracked Egg

Hello, today is somewhere between week 2 and week 3 for a hen and her 3 eggs. (She went sitting (hidden) when I found her, so no idea their exact hath date.
I moved the eggs and momma into an empty pen, and she continued sitting on them. A few hours later, candles them. One is great, one looks ok, but I’m not sure. The other one, looks alive, but it has this indent/crack in it. I’ve read about putting wax on the crack, and it might save the baby. Would clear nail polish do the same thing? It’s a thick/gel top coat, not the normal liquify stuff. Any help would be great. Thank you!

No I wouldn't use nail varnish. Too much of a chemical overload for the littlies. Wax would be so much better, bees wax would be the ideal. Good luck

Thank you! The one time I don’t have a single candle in my house
Is Burt’s bees wax (lip balm)close enough to wax? If not, I’m afraid this little egg won’t stand a chance, as I can’t make a trip to get a candle until tomorrow

Edit:I checked the egg again, the embryo is still moving around, but there’s a weird string/worm like shape whipping around now as well.

Not sure about the lip balm, not sure it would give a good enough seal, plus there would be additives to consider too. I've heard of people using tape to seal temporarily, maybe this could be an option until you could get some beeswax? I am by no way an expert, by the way!! Do a little search on here and see what others have said/done. Best of luck

No nail polish, got any Elmers Glue ... It's non toxic. I wouldn't use tape cause when you try to remove to put the wax, you may end up removing some shell. That "worm" thing you see maybe be the umbilical cord?

Ok, I’ve covered the spot with some Elmer’s glue, and made sure it was dry before sticking it back under mama. The color is a little yellower than I’d like to see in a healthy looking egg, but hopefully it’ll make it! These SHOULD be duckwing moderns!!

Update:
The morning after,I went and bought some wax, and when I Went to put it on, momma must have stepped on it, because the crack had spread/deepened, and was oozing yolk and other stuff. So I tossed him, plus another egg that was no longer alive. Then tonight, I went to feed, and she was off the nest, so I quickly checked the last egg, which was no better than other two, all yellowish/green, and not moving much. I’m leaving it under her for a few more days, praying that he might still be alive!

Yellowish green not good, is it dirty from the other eggs? Hen may have gotten off the nest cause the eggs weren't good. Careful cause if that egg is bad & you let it go too long, it will explode and you really don't want to experience that .
