i have a 7 months old turkey, and this morning I saw an egg, but it was cracked. So I made a nest for her, and placed the cracked egg on the nest. but after several hours I saw her egg totally cracked, I was thinking if she's stepped on it or pecked it. what should I do to make her lay on her nest?. I need your help guys :) thanks!

They are only going to lay on the eggs when they have a big enough clutch.
One broken egg does not qualify.
Some might wait until there is a dozen eggs before they sit on them.
And don't get upset if they find your nest building abilities less then par.

Am i going to separate my tom? or put them together on their coop? thanks :)

She will lay when she is ready. In the future, if you have a hen that is setting on eggs and you notice a cracked egg, you can put some wax on the cracked area to preserve it. You can keep the tom and hen together if you want to as long as you are comfortable that he won't do anything to the eggs.

this morning the hen laid again, and i have seen a crack again. i think the crack came from my tom because it has a hole but the thick paper like thing inside the egg is not torn, and i put a candle wax on it. will the egg has a chance to hatch? Please reply thanks!

Hmmmm. Looks like that ole Tom will be a problem. I hate to suggest to break up the happy couple but sounds like you will continue to get cracked eggs. How do you feel about separating them?

As far as if the egg has a chance to hatch, that is a tricky question. Being as though she has not even started to set, I'm not sure about the chance of life for the egg. If she would have already been setting on the egg, then maybe but now........, not too confident that the egg will hatch. 28 days to hatch and then the other days that she will wait before she sits is a long time for that egg to remain good.

This morning she laid an egg again, i separated the tom from her and the egg has no crack, she have a 2 eggs for now, and i placed the first egg on the nest. i wish she'll lay again tomorrow and i hope she's ready to incubate her eggs after 4 or more eggs. i hope those eggs will hatch! Fingers crossed! wish me luck :)

Are you serious???????? No cracked eggs?????? :weee :celebrate I am sooooooooo happy to hear that you have NO CRACKED EGGS !!!!!!!! :ya

Good job!!!!!! Crossing my fingers and wishing you luck. PLEASE keep me posted !!!!!! :highfive:

hahaha! of course she does. she already has 2 cracked eggs before that success and that 1st egg was totally wrecked. so i removed it. on the 2nd egg it has a hole. i know it won't hatch but i was hoping haha lol. The 3rd was a success! no crack... this morning she has no egg laid, but that morning she was placed by my uncle with the tom. i thought she won't lay this day but she does. she laid a very cute egg with a bonus, guess what? it has a crack T_T so i put a candle wax again to cover it and i put it on her nest, and i also put her on the cage where my nest is placed. i accept the fact that the cracked egg has no chance to hatch. but i was hoping that when she see the collections of her eggs she will lay more and more and start incubating them. i wish and pray that she'll lay more eggs and it has a chance to hatch. :) she already have 4 eggs laid but including the 1st cracked egg, but in her nest there is only 3 eggs and hoping she'll lay more :) thanks for helping me. :) keep posting on my thread! thanks :)

I understand what you're doing as far as enticing her to set. Good idea. You could also place some fake eggs in her nest and she will think they are real.

I was thinking about something else. Are the shells thin? That may be contributing to the cracked eggs. Would you like to try to add calcium to her diet? You can make available to her oyster shell to help with thin shells if that is the case.

Causes for thin egg shells

Calcium is the primary mineral that makes up eggshells and when not supplied in the diet, the hen does not have the basic materials needed to make the shell. The problem is produced when whole grains or feeds deficient in minerals and vitamins make up the bulk of the laying hen diet. Thin egg shells are observed when calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D3 are not provided in diets at adequate levels. It is more often observed during periods of hot weather because calcium is conserved and retained within the hen's body less efficiently.

The quality of the shells is improved by feeding a complete laying ration as the only diet. This diet supplies all nutrients in the proper proportions so the hen can produce good shells. If thin egg shells becomes a problem, it is advisable to add 2 pounds of oyster shells (as an oyster shell flour or hen-sized oyster shells) to every 100 pounds of complete layer ration.

This will provide a quick remedy to the problem and should restore egg shell quality within a short period of time. After the egg shell quality is restored, the addition of oyster shell can be eliminated and the complete layer diet can then maintain good egg shell formation. It is also advisable to also add a vitamin supplement to the drinking water while the oyster shell is being added to the feed. This will help ensure that calcium and phosphorus in the diet is being properly absorbed through the digestive system and will be available for deposition as shell on the egg.
