Craigslist *Safe* ??

I think the girl who got killed actually met someone at a hotel. I could be wrong, though, but that is how I remember it. When you start meeting strangers in hotel rooms you are taking awful chances.

Just use your common sense.

The girl that got killed was selling her "services" and met a crazy guy at a hotel. I think I would meet them in a walmart parking lot, there are always tonnes of people there

Yeah, the craigslist killer was picking up girls out of the erotic services directory much to the dismay of his fiance.....

I think CL is just as safe as placing a classified ad in the paper. Don't put a picture of you or your family in the ad, just what you are advertising. If you are single or alone, don't post or allude to that in any way when corresponding. Other than that, I haven't ever worried about it.

I've found wonderful antique furniture that way and have used it to help find homes for dogs I rescued, and a number of times to buy things locally. I think it is a great tool.

edit to add: people coming for a pet were screened via email, and came to our home. We have met in a public place to buy something, and also have gone to people's homes. I always had my DH present, except in one instance where I was meeting a girl at a coffee shop for a small item-that felt safe & public enough. Perhaps a local Petsmart parking lot would be a good place to meet to exchange live birds?

I have sold chickens through Craigslist. I put my phone number on the ad (cell phone) and answer phone calls. I do not respond to emails, I mention that in the ad.

Our local sheriff's department is right beside an empty gravel lot. I have potential buyers meet me there.

If they show any hesitation about meeting me by the sheriff's department, I tell them I have changed my mind and hang up.

I even found a room mate through Craigs list. I screened her carefully, met her in town, checked her references and so on. She is a very good room mate.....

So, yes done carefully, Craigslist can be a big asset !

set up a hotmail email instead of useing your express one.just incase some crazy person starts harassing you.

I've bought tons of canning equipment on CL with no problems. DF has purchased all kinds of things.

The only problem we had was with a couple who sold us a crummy GPS unit. I suspect it was stolen and it conked out within 24 hours. Just like any purchase: caveat emptor. There are no returns on CL.

Me, too. I am worried that someone will buy a $5 chicken in order to "case" my place.

Just be aware of the scam. It goes like this

"Hello esteemed seller. I very much like your items and would like to purchace them. I am out of town. I will send you a certified check. Let me know when you get it and I will have a shipper come to your house and ship it for me."

Never ever ever ever take a check or even bother with someone who is not going to pull down your driveway and hand you CASH. I just go ahead and state in my ads that all sales must be local and that all sales must result in CASH.

Good Luck

Mike
