Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a great day. We recently adopted a 12 week old German Shepard Dog/Lab mix puppy named Charlie. He is a great puppy, very relaxed, doesn't chase the chickens, doesn't bark or whine, and very loving. However, he HATES his crate. Whenever we put him in his crate he cries and barks (only time he ever barks), chews on the bars, and rips the towel off the divider.

Does anyone have any advice on crate training Charlie?

Thanks!

Our last pup hated the crate. When we were not interacting with her, we confined her to our small wash room. Worked the same as crating and she was house broken quite readily. Now that she has matured she has no problem with being crated. I think it has to do with separation anxiety with puppies adapting to a new home. He is a beautiful pup.

Some dogs will be quieter in a wire crate while others do better in an airline style (VariKennel) crate so that they can't see too much of what's going on outside.

Patience and consistency. Being crated is an important lifeskill - if hte dog needs to be treated at the vet, if you have to have them boarded, even if you take them to be groomed.
