My 4 hens are now just 6 weeks old and tonight is their 3rd full night in their coop outside. Tonight and last night as I went out to close them in and do one final check, they were in some sort of hysterical mode. I don't know if that's what it is, but they sound as if someone is in some sort of crisis. I check them and everyone is fine but I don't know what in the world the commotion is over. They eventually settled down but it was pure chaos for a half hour or so. Any thoughts?? Thanks,

Is there roosts in there? If there is, they are probably experimenting hopping from on to another. :D Also, their balance might not be good so they might flap and squawk and fall off.

It takes a while to get used to a new place. If they haven't have lights out before it can be worse. And some roost time squabbling is normal.

Yes, they are funny little creatures! lol! I often have ruckus going on at roost time, even with my older ones. But it was even worse when they were little. Reminds me of when my boys were little and the ruckus they would cause when getting ready for bed!

Chickens do not see good at night. So as it gets dark they start to head for the sleeper to get a place on the bar to sleep. The pecking order is in place there too. The more dominate gets a place where they want and so on. The scrapping is them getting used to the dark and where they belong for the night. good luck
