Hi, I've had good luck with the "look but don't touch" method where the new birds are kept physically separate from the old but they can all see each other. Chickens generally do not like change, so a slow integration can works best. Good luck!

Well, the day I got the appenzeller and light brahma, the woman offered me 2 silkie frizzles because I love the feathered feet, and I accepted them. I think this was exactly what I needed! Now my silkie/frizzle numbers are at 4 (1 lavender, 1 splash, 1 buff frizzle, 1 orange frizzle) and my big girls are at 3. This seems to work a lot better. The big girls don't mess with the little ones; the litter silkies and frizzles kinda do their own thing, and I think I have peace in my flock!!
The frizzles I acquired were broody for their previous owner, and I am not trying to have any of that. I put 3 nesting boxes down in the yard with fake eggs in them, one fake egg up in the coop nesting boxes, and both my frizzles are laying 1-2 eggs a day! I am pretty happy now! I definitely feel like the more than 2 of the littles was the key.

MORNING UPDATE: My lavender silkie (Crystal we called her) jumped on the back of my orange frizzle and did a little dance while she stood still. I had a feeling I knew what it was but was hoping I was wrong. This morning, I let the girls out of the coop and Crystal comes down and crows! She is barely 6 months old, but as previously stated, I bought her and her dark blue brother being told they were both pullets. Now I am afraid getting rid of Crystal (because I live in town and cannot have roosters) because I finally just achieved chicken happiness and the key seems to be 4 of the smaller birds and 3 of my large hens. If I get rid of Crystal, Lola 2 (roughly 12 weeks) will be solo without a buddy and she was picked on as is for being alone. Crystal helped chase the hens away from her... Hmmmm... chicken math problems now...
