Crazy Chickens Daily (hopefully)

Why do chickens do what you least expect? I looked out my window yesterday morning and saw two chickens free roaming the yard. Now, while this wouldn't normally surprise me the problem was that I hadn't been out to open up the run this morning. Apparently the twins decided to sleep in the grow out coop. I did a bed check for Franny and Crown because Franny had just recently been returned to unrestricted access to the yard and the broody nest was opened up. I've not had issues with the "Tree" twins sleeping in weird areas, so I assumed they were in the big coop and didn't bother in checking. Silly me.
I am glad your 2 chickens are safe. I count my chickens every night.

The broodiness.....I noticed my hens take a bit over a week to be affirmatively confirm they are broody šŸ˜„ some just do it for a few days and say..well I don't want to sit in there all day so boring and hot, I might if she put in a TV with the movie"Chicken Run 1 and 2" :lau

2 of my Pekin bantam hens are being very naughty lately, they scream to let out of the run only to go to the dog carrier box in the garage to lay their eggs. All of the sudden, their 3 emptied nest boxes re not the place they want to lay their eggs anymore.

Pekin is a quiet chicken breed, but now they are so loud. The problem here is that when they scream the rooster crows, he is trying to help them, but does not know how....

In the mean time, I am grrrrrrr at them ā¤ļø

I'm back after a short hiatus, aka vacation. Chickens did fine, I had a sitter come in every 3 days to check food and water buckets. Franny decided to start laying again while I was gone and Fancy hit her molt big time. She's not usually a pretty molter, but it definitely hits different if you don't see the day to day transition. I thought I had come home to a turken. Otherwise, they seemed pretty happy to see me. The recent rain has created a slip an slide in their run, I ended up throwing down some straw to created some grip when I walk in there. Fingers crossed I don't take a spill this winter.

The time change has hit us. My girls don't know what to do about the early evenings. When I went out to shut them in for the night, I was missing one. Went on a hunt for the missing one, Jedi, and found her already in the coop, settling down to go to sleep. Apparently she is an early to bed, early to rise. It's getting chilly enough, I'm about to start adding scratch to their pre-bed treats to keep them warm.

The girls are getting so much better about following me when I take the treats out to put them up for the evening....at least until I get them in the run. Then they like to play around at the doorway and pop in and out while I am trying to entice the slowpoke to enter the run. Rora the cat decided to make a break for it today, while I was getting breakfast for the chickens and the twins ran directly after her. One of them stared her straight in the face at the fenceline, standing not more than 1-2 feet away from her.

Breakfast time for the ladies (maybe gentlemen.) Basic feed blend this morning. I've found I have had to split the serving because Fancy (the white one) will not let the twins eat in peace. No one else has any problems with her.

It was freezing today🄶, I went to let the girls out and it was snowing at my place and ice cubes were in the kettle I left on the patio table. When I checked on them later in the day, apparently everyone decided to bunker down in the brood pen. I watched everybody coming out one by one. It looked like a chicken house version of the clown car act.
