Well, it was time...or at least I made it that time. The chicks have been moved outside for good....unless there is a sudden drop in temperature again. They could probably have hung out a bit longer in the house, but they were starting to stink and were just so active and big. I had to do a bit of rearranging the sleeping and housing arrangements. I am still waiting on my run to be built, so the grower run isn't available for a secure pen until that is up. The quarantine run is currently in use with a flock of orpingtons and a roo that I am holding for a friend. So tonight, I put the chicks in the brooder pen for the next few weeks-a month and put Franny and Gandalf in with the main flock. I'm not particularly pleased with the arrangement due to the hierarchy between the main flock and Gandalf in close quarters. I'll be keeping a close eye on them for the next few weeks. If I can get some of the neighbor kids to close all the pens nearer to dark, I can leave them in the main yard for longer, to reduce the likelihood of fighting.
