I was out back in my yard and my son came running over to me to tell my that there is an animal near my live bait trap.
I look over to that area and I see my chickens near there and I'm thinking 'if there was a raccoon or something over there wouldn't my chickens have already freaked out?'
I saw something move (this is about 200 ft away from me and wooded) and it looked bigger than a cat.
Suddenly my top hen screeches and all the chickens run to her. Then they all run for this animal. By the time I got over there (I'm sick right now and am dehydrated so I wasn't running very fast) they chickens had this animal cornered up the tree and they are screeching at it.
It was a porcupine. I have never seen anything like this in my life. Crazy chickens, smh.
I took a pic, but the poor thing was way up there, so it's really hard to see.

If my husband and son wasn't with me, I honestly would have thought I was hallucinating.

This doesn't surprise me. Your chickens are obviously very territorial about their range. I have wild turkeys, and my chickens think nothing of running off a tom turkey or his hens if they feel they are finding something to eat that they feel is theirs.

My chickens interact with the deer, too. It's not always a matter of chickens being the vulnerable prey.
