My husband found this egg a few days ago. It was right by the coop door so it was newly put there as it would have been impossible to miss.
It was 2 leathery shells mostly enclosing the egg seen in the last picture. The whole mass is huge! Softball size. The egg is normal sized.
The coop floor is sand so I don’t think it was the egg somehow rolled up in litter or leaves - there just isn’t that stuff in the coop.
All I can think is that the egg got stuck inside the hen and kept getting a new shell applied....?
I’ve actually had the egg and the surrounding ‘shell’ in my fridge the last few days - been to busy to deal with it. I’m going to crack the egg open this morning so see what’s inside!
