Cream crested legbar cockerel

Thank you. Having read it I think he has too much copper markings, his plume is too big, his comb is floppy and looks like it is diagonal. He is completely imperfect I suspect but I love him. Is he a ‘decent’ example?
I think you nailed it. He has the correct barring on his tail, the correct barring on his wings, he has white ear lobes, yellow legs, etc. He is not in the 75% right range but is probably close to 50%.

ScottyGill,

The PCGB Standard for the Cream Legbars can been seen HERE.

There are lots of things that are specified in the standard. to be "right" you have to meet them all. My mentor when I started breeding Cream Legbars had been breeding Legbars for over six years and every year should pull out this standard and read every section one by one to see if her birds did or did not meet each point described. After 6 years and hundreds of Cream Legbars she said that she had never seen a single legbar that meet all the requirements and was convinced that she never would.

So...this is a less of a right markings, wrong markings thing as it is how close you can get to the standard thing. If you can get more than 50% correct you have a decent example of the breed. If you can get more than 75% right then you have a Champion bird.

If you have any questions as to whether your bird does or doesn't meet the description in the standard yet us know.

Erm yes, is he a decent example ?
