We have a Cream Legbar chick that is around 5 weeks old, we noticed today that it has really realy large wings in proportion to its body around twice the size of wings compared to the other chicks of the same age....is this normal?

Here is a photo I took last night, yesterday she was a little subdued and when I picked her up she was quiet. Unfortunately when i went out a few moments ago she had passed away inthe night so there was obviously a serious underlying condition.

It was running around fine on the Sunday which I think is why we hadn't really noticed anything odd. But then suddenly went quiet on the Monday, which is when we noticed how huge the wings had become in relation to the chicken. It was very quick whatever it was. Very odd

What you were seeing was the look of a bird that is sick. They will be quiet with wings down. Check your other stock they may be getting sick also. Things like coccidia or upper respiratory can kill them

At the moment they all look very bright and happy, but I will be keeping a close eye on them. Thank you for your help.

The chick in the picture is showing classic signs of coccidia. As you now rrealize, coccidia can kill chicks very rapidly. If I were you I would run a course of treatment ( Corid ) on all chicks that were in the same pen as the legbar.

Sorry about your chick passing........
