Afternoon!
I need some help, we’ve hatched two cream legbar chicks, i purchased a load from a farm, never saw the parents as was during the lockdown and I was met at the gate. Hey ho, anyway, some others are in a different incy, but these two hatched yesterday, I’m stumped? This is my first time hatching cream legbars and I’m curious as to male or female? Time will tell with the others and when they hatch!

I think I was just so shocked, wasn’t what I was expecting what do ever! I had a mixed batch that hatched yesterday also ‘barnyard mix’ and they look like more cream legbar than these two🤣

1 male 1 female CCL. This hatch coloring is heavily influenced by the Jill Reese line. A line I and others despise.
What don’t you like about the Reese line? Asking because I have a CCL whose chick down looked nothing like the pics I found online...

I was going to say I saw a male and female but the colors looked way too light. Is that the problem with the Jill Reese line?

Lighter hatch down, along with muted colors so it makes it harder to auto sex them. They are more aggressive, including towards their hens. I had a Jill Reese rooster attack one of the gold creole hens to the point he scalped her down to her shoulder, I ended up losing her and Gold Creoles are becoming critically rare. They also have a diluted blue gene that allows green eggs instead of blue. And the adult colors are muted and the roosters have lost the bold colors and the roosters are this speckled silver / black head to chest, while the girls are this muted maybe peach chest and silver and black head and neck. Plus their crests are smaller and sometimes absent.

Have I mentioned how the roo's have a nasty attitude.

Thank you for your response, very informative! Not to take over someone else’s thread, but would you say these pics of my 6wk CCL match what you’re talking about? I thought I had a substitution until she started growing her crest! I was SO confused lol.
