Cream Legbar Pictures

Pics
You have some very nice pullets there! I would love to see your adult Legbars from your breeding pens also if you ever find the time.

I love the length that your pullets are showing through the back and tail angles are nice. Combs and crests look to be a good size, not too large. One thing I will note is the red earlobes, they should be white as Im sure you know. Is that something you work on with in your breeding program or is it a future plan? Im not sure how many pullets are pictured, I was guessing two maybe 3 if the middle pic is a different pullet?

The pullets in the last 2 pics look to have a back that angles a bit upward or maybe its a cushion?

I really like the look of the middle picture pullet. I like her body and her length through her back low tail angle, her breast is nice and rounded and full, though Im not good at determining if keel length is good.

They all have nice hackle color, seems to be buttery cream, the salmon is vibrant almost rusty, maybe its the sunlight enhancing the color).

I would love to see more pictures of all your Legbars. Your pullets are nice, it would be nice to see what your doing to get where you are :)
good eye on the earlobes - that's one area I've certainly had issues with. I had a nice rooster I hatched out with these pullets that was showing a better white than previous generations, but I had a dog attack that got him and two of my sulmtalers (they always go for the best birds!!!)

the chest is a little on the rusty side - I'm lucky to have them next to my Welsummers, and comparing them next to each other the CLB are more rusty, not orange though, just less pinkish

the hen on the right in the picture below was culled - the one in the middle was used for breeding

below -poor earlobes - slight squirrel tail - culled

This was one of my breeding roosters -

I agree with Junibutt and chicken pickin-- LOL -- just about wrote 'what they said' --- cP sure has sharp eyes - I didn't notice the earlobes at first. I think maybe white is dominant. I crossed CL rooster (white lobes) with Isbar hen(red lobes) - and just grabbed two eggs to fill blank space in Incubator. -- Both hatched and had nice white earlobes. The only other thing among the things that you are looking for - may be to select for stronger barring evident in the female's tails. We have been hearing that comment from APA judges that they would like to see more barring in females -- and other than than and the remarks by cP and J -- I want to say 'good work' - and that they are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l ! I especially like the tones on your rooster in the last photo. As we all have work to get to the SOP and there aren't any perfect chickens -- so it goes -- but on that rooster if his hackles have find barring evident - I think that is approaching what they should be in the perfect world. So keep up the good work and keep posting.

Hi Northtex

Welcome to BYC,

your Goldie is really a surprise to me - I thought that her trail would show lots more barring. A female chicken can only have one barring gene but I thought that hybrid that you mentioned would show more barring..... which just goes to show you that everyday you learn something new. Especially with chickens.

The Rooster in the picture above is from same cream legbar rooster as the two gold hens but the mom is the wheatn americana next to him in the picture. i like the gold color
