Cream Legbar Pictures

Pics
Here are some photos of my CL babies. Source is My Pet Chicken (so, presumably, Meyer hatchery - they shipped from Ohio). The two younger ones look just like most of the other pullet chicks I've seen here on BYC, but the older one is lighter and has a strange, interrupted head marking. She is also feathering out slower.

Clarissa, 5 days (she looks mad at me because she is - how dare I handle her! The nerve!!!)

Jennifer, 5 days (she likes me more)

And Paula, 13 days (she's a real character - she likes to watch TV with me). She's lighter, and has an odd interrupted V on the head with a distinct black dot in front, and slower feathering. (She's in my avatar at about 6 days old, comforting a sister who didn't make it.)

They are SUCH characters!!!!

Mostly I agree with this -- except maybe to say that even before being day - olds -- If we were all really on top of our game we would be selecting for the eggs that even go into the incubator or under then broody hen.... blue preferably - nice size and shape.

My day olds never have yellow legs or beaks...they come out fairly --baby-pink- and don't get pigment for awhile....
My newborns have baby pink legs but they start changing to Willow or dingy in a few days and then yellow starting at about 6-8 weeks and are completely yellow by 16-18 week timeframe.

Thought that I had already posted these guys...oh - I bet that's in my blog -- okay -- the mind wobbles.

Caught this today -- one grow out is more 'black&white' -- he comes from my line that I was thinking is over melanized -- but now I'm wondering if he won't grow up to have crisper barring, the other one is from a different parent and has a more pale/blended barring. So I'm going to grow them out to adulthood.

They look like two little dinosaurs there....earlier they each had a beak resting on the board...but of course I had to go back and get the camera....darker chick has bigger crest and already pleated the front of his comb more - as one would expect.

Soooo cute! These are great pictures, you captured them a good moments. They both look like they will grow out to have some good things going on. I would love to see body shots of them side by side one day.

I was out looking over the males in my brooder, chicks are 6weeks old. And I have 2 males that stand out to me as different from the others (11 males I think are in the brooder). Nine of the males look gray and white some darker gray and others lighter gray. The other 2 males look like their plumage is coming in cream and gray, not white and gray like se typically see. I thought they looked strange but after observing them a little Im wondering if I stumbled upon 2 males that might have adult plumage I feel correct per the standard. Their heads are obvious butter cream color though I cant tell if the color between the gray barring on the body and wings are cream or white colored. I have never hatched male chicks that colored like this so tome will tell. I will need to try to scoop them up to get a closer look and I will have to try to get a few pictures of them. I might be wrong and they might be very incorrect.

At a quick glance yesterday I almost for a second thought one of them was a female due to the cream head and neck, until I looked again and realized he was one of the boys lol.

That makes a lot of sense. Cream is actually rare enough that some folks -- that have bred for years etc. in the UK - honestly admit that they are not sure that they have EVER seen a true Cream Legbar. Curious if the males that could be the home-run chicks are descendent of your avatar guy - who contrasts so well with the snow!!

I should get body and back shots of my two critters -- I just got this shot because of the expressions. I should enter it in 'what is this chicken thinking?'

Yes these 2 males are sons of my avatar male, the mothers I believe were my blackbirds hens, though Im not 100% positive on that. Seven of the males in the brooder are from my avatar male and 4 females. I also have a young week old male/female pair from him as well with a broody and my last 7 eggs in the incubator are from him also. So not all was lost when I sold him.

I took a bunch of pictures of these 2 young males, they are actually just under 5 weeks old. I have a new phone and cant seem to figure out how to transfer the pics to the computer. It requires an SD card and I took the pics before I inserted the SD and it has no option to transfer them over. Im not liking this new phone much, DH thought he was being nice by buying me a new phone, its not what I would have picked myself

but I guess its the thought that counts.

I will try to get the pics up to see what anyone else thinks of them, maybe Im seeing things lol.

It took forever but I think I finally got a few pics saved to my comp. The pics didn't capture the color too well. Next time I will do a side by side with a more gray and white male chick for contrast. He still has a little chick down on his neck because he is under 5 weeks. same as chick in the next post.

This is CL male chick number 1
