Cream Legbar Working Group: Standard of Perfection

The spots alone are not what you look for, also the placement of the spots within or out of the V formed by the chipmunk stripes,

That bottom one has a 150% chance of being a little girl. The eye shadow through the eye is another dead giveway.

I sell a couple hundred of these a year, and you are not alone, I will get a handful of people a year claiming I sold them a rooster as a female because of the spot..

I have found and I think others have too, some of the best looking hens had spots on their heads.

I think these are

pullets but two have a small yellow spot. the 2 picture in the box are the same chicks

small spot would this be a pullet or cocker?

the box is too hard to tell, and I would like to see the eyes on the last one, but it appears to be a pullet.

Most of my males look like a Dominique or Cuckoo maran chick.

Females are known to have a head spot, not only on cream leg bars, but on other autosexing breeds like Rhodebars, but forget about the headspot, what you most focus on it’s on the V-shaped head stripes, double barred males will have a messy head pattern, you can’t make out any pattern and the head spot it’s rather larger and blurred.

For example even White Cream Legbars that have all yellow/cream chick down, you can make out the females by the well patterned V-shaped head.

I cannot do that on my whites, I have tried and tried there is just no color like yours have. I sure wish I could.

I will keep looking though and thanks for the pictures.

I shall, I have a hatch in a couple days, I will show you what I have, I have to admit I was looking for a spot and never thought to look for that V so I am kind of excited about that.

Sexing these chicks is all about the crisp V-shape on females, forget about the head spot next time you hatch some and like magic you will start seeing the females from the males.

as long as they keep their chick down you will be able to sex them of course.

I can mark the males then...or if I get heartless enough, send them to the chamber. which is what I should be doing. I get over run with roosters every summer.
