In the 5th and 6th pictures, it appears on my computer that the two hens have different colors of crests. Once again, my strong aesthetic personal preference is for the darker crest on the cream legbar female. I know some are favoring the lighter. Can both versions exist in the Sop?

there's no really clear shot of the hens' breast on those, but from what I see, there appears to be the same "shafting" we were discussing in the Welsummer group. Its very visible in the background hen in the next to last picture. Just a thin cream colored line going down each feather on the chest

x2 also. even salmon is rare as far as ive seen.

It would take the same amount of work for each. The type is done.....or will be, but the same rules apply to each color. Additional fees and a color Standard for each variety. A new set of breeders affidavits etc.

Speaking of 2014 -- if you read this and you're a Cream Legbar Club member...please complete that short survey you were emailed about - it is a way to evaluate the things done to date...and a place for you to indicate what you would like to see in the future. It will carry a lot of weight - and help shape the 2014 programs and activity. There are two membership levels for the club - one is the -- 'just want to keep in touch, stay informed and not pay dues' - 'associate member' - and the other one is for 'roll up those sleeves and get in and hands on'; 'full member' -- Full members can vote on Club busness, and have contact information in the Club directory. I also know a 'just keep me up-to-date' member who wants to support the club financially and paid dues to help the treasury for club expenses. This 'shafting' business has my new-chicken-mom head swirling. Are we saying shafting is acceptable?
I have 3 CLs about 3 1/2 mos old, and to me, they're beautiful. The light stripe in their feathers really set off the breed from my others.
Perhaps, I've only got backyard flock quality instead of showgirls--what age can I expect to know how they will really look?

Final determinations will be made in the future but it's definitely good to be discussing these issues now. We are not changing the SOP to reflect our birds, because we did not create the Cream Legbar, just imported it. It is important that we identify issues (such as slight shafting), though, that are already present in show quality birds so that we don't lose points in future competitions for no reason. Clear as mud?
Most likely, some shafting of the same color slightly lighter than the web will be permitted. Definite lacing and contrast shafting will most likely not be permitted. So for example, the shafting in your pullets' breast would be fine, but the hackles would need to be bred to eliminate the lacing and promote more cream barring. Judges have recommended waiting until our birds are over 1 year of age before selecting breeders, but most people have not been waiting that long. Your girls will change after their first major molt, and that will most likely show their "real look".
We all have a lot of work to do, but there has already been much progress in just the past year! I can not wait to see where we are in another! hth
