Ok, just had my first legbar babies hatch. By what I have been reading and learning, I think the two babies are both dark males. Not sure, would like everyone's thoughts please
Thanks,

Here is a different pic.

So, am I right, that they are both dark males, or females with head spots. The one chick does have a larger spot on its head, (closest ) the other has a smaller spot on the head.
Congratulations!! Two bouncing baby boys. Very beautiful. They look like medium or silvery boys to me. ETA especiallyy in the second picture. Can't wait to see how they will grow out.

Good article, especially for beginners.
That's me == beginner. :O)

I think that the plan of 3-flocks that redchicken9 has will definitely help with the genetic diversification. I've seen some sights that say chickens can go for 20-generations with line breeding and have no ill effects. I also know that GaryDean26 has some articles about how to have enough chickens to select the one(s) that should be bred from the ones that should go to the laying flock or be sold as pet quality birds.

I'm really looking forward to a club--so that these things can go out to all of us in a newsletter or something... I also see no harm in putting everything at the 'beginner' level. More advanced chicken keepers can provide input for the club -- AND....it can be kept in a repository. Most important of all will be the progress that people make by actually breeding toward the SOP that is developed.

Just look at how far we have come in just the last year!!! Remember when we didn't know what color the eggs would be? Remember when we didn't know how the chicks would look? I do.
Everyone deserves a pat on the back.....

I just have to say....
It amazes me all the hard work and effort you are all putting into this breed...
Good Job.

I wish there where more people that felt this way about my Penedesenca.

Though not breeding Legbars. I will be watching your efforts and chiming in from time to time.

Hi, morning all,
Thanks KPenley for the cutie chicks. ChicKat for the breeding post and see how far we've come perspective and Lonnyandrina and Cooper12 for the encouragements. I've been wondering if folks still have plans to review and critique the SOP. Is anyone else committed to finish this through?

Let me know so I can figure what to do next. Thanks from me!
