Cream Legbars - do I have it right?

*sigh* Well, "Goldilocks" started crowing this morning. So that "pullet" had everybody fooled. Of course he waited until I'd already re-homed the other three. Fortunately the fellow I gave them to said at the time that if it did turn out to be a roo he'd take it as well and they're not all that far away. We can meet up with them at Tractor Supply.

That’s crazy. I wonder why he has female colouring. I’d be careful breeding from him or any siblings.

When I was reading about legbars they said the males sometimes have the chipmunk color but they always have some sort of white head dot, personally I see a head dot on the right most pullet colored chick but I'm not certain, they all grew up beautifully

I need to do another post in the breed forum, but just a warning that the genetics of these Legbars seem to be all over the place. In fact at this point I'm suspecting that there's an Ameraucana back there a bit more recent than the original birds that went to make up the breed. I've got one pullet without a crest, one "pullet" that turned out to be a 'roo, a couple of them have muffs, and one appears to have a beard. I'm not too bothered as I wasn't after exhibition birds or birds for breeding, I just wanted some good egglayers of pretty eggs.

My best bird does have nice coloring, a good crest and no muffs or beard. That said it's also possible that one of the gentleman's other roosters went "walkabout" because as I recall many of the pens weren't totally enclosed. Even while I was there he had to eject a "visiting" rooster from one of them. I did get the idea that this was an uncommen occurrance, but it is possible. Although I don't recall there being any Ameraucanas there. It's a mystery.

I posted the above in the July Hatch-A-Long. Says it all really Featheredplanets. I did take another look at the original photo in this thread and I suspect that lighter colored leftmost bottom chick is the one that turned into "Goldilocks". Fortunately I wasn't planning on doing any breeding from this lot, I'm really just after fresh eggs, but even if I were there's only the one I'd even consider, however, given that I don't know the genetics I'd be starting out two steps back.

Last roo, "Goldilocks" has gone on to his new home. I sincerely hope that's the last of them. It should be, the last four seem to only have pullet traits. Ah, well, that leaves more room for the four who are left.
