Hi everyone, So this fall we had some new experiences. My New Hampshire Red and 2 guinea hens (all 1 year old) went through a molt (moult?) for the first time. They all seem to have stopped laying, though it looks like feathers are growing back now. I can't find eggs anywhere on the property, and I'm usually pretty good at detective egg work.
But while that was happening, my younger new layer, a Splash Marans, got something respiratory possibly, and dropped dead. The other young one, the Cream Legbar, seems healthy and happy, but has not laid an egg in several weeks, when the molting of the other chicken started.
Any input, advice?
I did try keeping them in the coop and run during the day for 2 days, but no eggs. The only one laying is my younger Black Copper Marans, every day, like clockwork.
