Cream Legbars

I am currently in the process of making arrangement to rehome a trio of Cream Legbars. They are roughly 6-7 months old and from what I can tell they are correct for cream. Im having a hard time deciding on what they should be priced at, I want to be fair but don't want to undersell as I have put time and effort into them. I was thinking $100. Does that seem too steep, or is it fair?

I paid less than that for my 2 pairs, but if someone offered me $100 for them I would turn them down fast, they are worth much more than that to me. Price and value are fluid things. I'm glad you got your asking price.

I got my first egg but think it's from one of the Isbar "packing peanuts" that came with my CLs. It's minty. Closest to OAC 151. What do you guys think?

OAC 151 is actually a pretty good CL egg color. I don't have Isbars though, so I I can't compare, but I have had multiple pullets and hens lay around that color for CLs. :D

Don't know who it's from, but I do know CL's can lay both blue and greenish eggs (The latter surprised me when I found out). You may have to watch your nest boxes to see who is laying.

Congratulations Scatterknit!!
IMO the first egg is always something to crow about. opps a bit of mixed metaphor there.

OAC151 is not a bad color for CLs. I have some that I say are OAC179 - and have yet to hear of someone mention that they have a bluer color. My Isbars are definitely greener -- like OAC74. One of the first pullet eggs from my Isbars was between OAC71 and OAC72. My Isbars didn't come into lay until they were 8-months old. The Isbar eggs seem a bit longer and the Legbar eggs seem a bit rounder. Your Isbar peanut could be from a far different strain than my group though. Is your Cream Legbar at about 24-weeks? That seems to be the magic number on average.

The American Draft Standard says that the eggs are blue or green. Although blue is listed first the wording says that both are equally acceptable (otherwise it would say something like blue eggs, but green eggs also allowed). The original British Standard allows for blue, green or olive eggs. We removed the olive color allowance when we wrote the standard for several reasons.

Out of curiosity, what lead you to the conclusion that only blue eggs are allowed? Many people think that and I am trying to figure out where that idea came from. Perhaps if we can locate the source we can get it corrected so there won't be as much confusion.

I think that is a fine colored egg! Congrats. It looks pretty big for a first effort--have you weighed it

My June hatch girls are all laying. Most of the birds are probably closest to an OAC 123 (as were most of the hatching eggs I received from 3 different breeders) although if I have my family look at the eggs and match them to the OAC, the colors they tag are sometimes different than I identify the same egg--it's pretty weird. I just took pictures of this mornings take alongside the blue and the green pages of the OAC. They are a richer slightly bluer color than 123 but not quite to a 151: and it seems like the colors of the eggs are slightly different in the two pictures but they are taken seconds apart:

The fact that CL's are marketed as blue-egg-layers makes us think that they SHOULD lay blue eggs.
