Creating a Blue Laced Red Cochin......

I have a great starter roo for your project, young boy, single comb, pure barber line BLRW.

OMG, stuff him in a box and ship him over here!

So I've hatched out 8 so far of my first generation BLR, from my GL roo (Midas) x my Splash hen (ChaCha). I really don't expect to see any lacing or red leaking thru on the F1's. The best hens will be bred back to their father for the 2nd generation.

These range in age from 19 days to 3 days:

I can't wait to see what comes out of this project. Please, please keep updating this post.

My blue Cochin roo has some red laced neck feathers. It's always bothered me....

what if you bred a BLRW roo with a white cochin hen because BLR will come out wont it? and then breed the best looking pullets with the most feathers on their legs back to their father (BLRW), then breed those chicks to a golden laced cochin to get the heavier leg feathering. (I am no genetic expert but it seemed like it might work)

I'm working with purebred Cochins, only. No Wyandottes, No RIR's. IMHO, crossing breeds will not only set you back years, but you run the risk of losing type forever.

Can't really tell you anything about the parents as I acquired them at an Amish auction. These two and a GL cochin hen. I figure if I breed back to a GL roo that the barring will maintain/darken. I'm getting a blue for now from a breeder. That will bring out the blue? I really want to keep the Buff coloring in there.
