Creating a half-shed coop from existing shed

I use these for my "gate latches" on my two run doors. I suppose the risk with using these on those dutch doors is if a chicken gets smart enough to pull it and open the door. Haha.

Is that just a wire that feeds through the wall? Genius! That's a real fancy version of what I did on the inside doors

Yep, I was typing as you were replying about your existing cable/chain backup option. Same thing. This is just a thin wire with a little clip on it that you clip to the gate latch. Also has a spring on the latch side so that the cable is pressed back towards the closed position so that the latch closes when the cable is not pulled. Otherwise the cable/chain could possibly hold the latch open. If that makes sense.

Now that I zoomed in on your photo, I see the black chain. I bet that chain will hold the latch open as it gets caught on the chicken wire. Bet it doesn't have a smooth return to closed latch position.

For mine, I drilled a hole thru the post that the latch is on and snaked the cable thru.

For the options regarding the exterior door and wanting it to be "openable" from both sides....I can only think of a regular doorknob, or the same gate latch cable again. But then you can't securely lock the coop since locking it with a gate latch means you can't open it from the non-locked side.

I'm not worried about being able to lock it, just latch and open it from both sides...I really didn't even know those were a thing..I'm

Lol, I didn't know someone actually MADE something like that, GENIUS - thank you for your replies, i am totally going to swap out my chains for these (seem a little smoother and more streamlined) and I think it will work perfect for the outside doors - I love the gate latches because it is super easy for the kids to use...not worried about being able to lock the one from the coop to the run anyway, so seems great!

If you do go with the fancy wire gate latch pulls, make sure to follow the directions about exactly where to drill the hole above the gate latch. The hole goes at the level where the latch is fully opened. So probably an inch or two above the top of the latch when it is closed. I just eyeballed it on the first one I did and the hole was not at the right level and this impacted the operation of the cable pull. Sounds like it would not matter, but it does. I drilled the hole in the right spot and it worked 100% better. Just a tip.

What I am saying can be seen in the full size version of this photo. The gate latch is pulled all the way open and the cable goes thru the post right behind the upper most portion of the metal latch where it touches the post.
