Okay, I am new to all this sex link stuff. In the future I want to be able to hatch out my own chicks, for myself, friends, family, sell any extras etc. but I want breeds I am certain to be able to tell apart. I am surrounded by areas that don't allow roos and I wouldn't want people to by straight run to find out 3 of their 4 chicks are now boys and they have no choice but to get rid of them.

I think I am over thinking things (as usual) and confusing myself.

Delaware hens and a Buff Orpington roo. The cockerels will have a head spot and the pullets will not correct?

Same with a BO roo and a Dominique cross?

What about NHR roo and Delaware hens? NHR and Dominique hens? Are they both determined by head spot also?

I sure hope I posted this in the correct area :/ if not I apologize.

Not sure if you have seen it but a really good thread on sex links, main post that give you tons of the crosses you can do ... https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/261208/sex-linked-information ... if you are using a barred hen you are making black sex links ... a buff orp roo over a del hen gives you red/buff sex links ... orp roo x dom hens gives you black sex links, the ones with the head spots ... NHR roo x Del hens gives you red sex links ... NHR roo x Dom hens give you black sex links again ....... red sex links you tell apart because the girls are reddish and the boys are whitish ... the blacks the males have a head spot and the girls don't

Oh geesh that means I was right before lol. I ended up reading a post about there being a head spot on the BO/Del cross and it messed me all up. :p

Now stupid question. EEs won't do a sex link since they are mutts right? I have a barred EE hen. Looks like a dom but with a different comb.

If she is barred you should be able to use her to do blacks so far as I know, barring is a simple dominant and if she has it she has it, don't know of anything that would mimic the appearance?

Oh that would be nice! I will do her eggs on a separate hatch and see what comes out before I mix her eggs in with the other eggs.

Thanks for the info!
