Creative Ways to Fill Feed and Water

The Little Giant was made for use with a hose- it just needs to be mounted so the hose can connect to the op of it. I do remember seeing some sort of tripod, but I mounted it to the inside of the coop.

I am in NC- not too bad during the winter, but the PVC connectors don't handle freezing well.

Our waterer is a kitty litter bucket with nipple waterers in the bottom. It hangs by the handle, has a lid that can be easily removed to add water or ice bottles to chill the water during high temps....the lid keeps the yucky stuff out...so far I have not had a problem with any of the chickens getting on top of it. We lift it and wash when needed. Very simple to add a quart or gallon of water when necessary.

Our feeder now is a commercial hanging feeder with dividers that does not allow for billing or scratching. Dear husband has bought the supplies necessary to make a feeder from PVC and Rubbermaid box that will hold 50# bag of feed so I will not have to refill a feeder, just make sure the feed makes it down the line.

Good luck!

I live in Maine, I don't have working hoses from early fall until late spring, so I have to fill water buckets for the horses, goats, dogs and chickens in my kitchen and lug them out. I was wondering more for the few months I do have running outside water!

T.E.R. :

Where do you the nipples from? This is a huge time saver.

do a search for "nipple waterer" there is a post that lists a guys name that sells them and it says right in it that he is cheaper than the commercial places will try and find his name.
