My friend Sophia (perfectly_polish) is giving me a buff laced polish to "replace" my polish who got eaten by a predator (it will be hard to replace Croc). She is also giving me a crele polish. What would happen if I crossed them (considering that one is male and the other female)? Would I get a complete wreck of colors or coudl I get more crele if I kept up the breeding?

What color should I buy (besides crele obviously) to get a percentage/recessive of crele?

Is that bird a true Crele? As in hatched out with the classic BBR chimpunk striped down? Last I was aware, there were no crele Polish, nor any BBR Polish.. (please let me know if either of those exist! I was working towards those a long time ago but gave up on it)

If it hatched out a dark chick and grew up looking more like a cuckoo and then developed the browns/reds on the neck later, it's not a crele, but a barred birchen/ barred leaky black.

Buff laced have dominant white, which works by replacing any black pigment with white(for an visual example, buff laceds are simply gold laceds with the addition of dominant white.. which turns the black lacing to white..). A cross of buff laced with a "not true crele" will give you mostly white/off white birds.

I am not sure what a buff laced x true crele would produce though.

I can say though that if your goal is for (true)creles, you would be best off getting black breasted red(aka red duckwing) birds to breed with it as crele is simply the barring over a BBR bird.

It is common for birds that are gold birchen(as in Black Copper Marans) with barring to be called crele but this is technically incorrect.

Oh wow that's cool. The best route as for keeping the Polish type is to see if Sophia would give you either another crele or BBR Polish or find another breeder who has them. Would love to see pictures sometime.

Crele roo x BBR will give you creles in both sexes. BBR roo over crele hen will give you crele roos and BBR hens.

BBR is uncommon in the crested breeds. When I attempted to develop a line of BBR and Wheaten Polish, for some reason there was a lot of trouble hitting on birds with the color and with good type. Have heard the same from others, so if you could avoid crossbreeding it would be good..

Thought I'd add that there are crele polish. I have seen many on sites from the UK and there were some crele polish on eggbid.
If you get crele you could also cross them to a WC cuckoo.

Yes the barring is due to the same gene, the name generally goes by whether the bars are straight or chevron shaped. The difference is by various other genes- fast feathering tends to produce chevron shaped bars, which is usually called cuckoo.


The very same barring gene over a BBR gets called Crele.
