If mine were on the ground they would drown every time the tide comes in (pretty often). We live on the water, in the salt-marsh. Mine are in pens up off the ground for their own protection. My birds are quite happy, as evident by all the eggs I am getting.

Here is Diller, we bought her from batch of eggs that were supposed to be Appenzeller Spitzhaubens, not sure if that's what she really is since she lays beige eggs. :lol Either way, we ,love her:
