Can anyone tell me if a crest on a spangled Cornish bantam is a common occurrence, or did I purchase a fluke? I can't seem to find info. on crested Cornish. I purchased him at an auction with another roo who is normal, and of pretty good quality.

As far as I know, the SOP doesn't recognize a crested Cornish. My guess is he is crossed. The Cornish type is very strong when crossed the first generation.

He looks pure Cornish to me, other than the crest. His color and type, including typical Cornish faults, look very Cornish. I wouldn't call him a mutt. Here's a couple pics I took this morning.

You purchased a mutt, not a fluke.
It's really too bad that an APA judge with 50 years experience has not yet learned to recognize that genetic diversity has been responsible for all the various breeds that he/she judges, and that every breed could have been considered a "mutt" at the beginning stages of it's development. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and I find beauty in being different and unique, along with judging what I personally desire. Whereas, other people find beauty in consistentcy and similarity, along with judging by what other people desire.
