Hello,

I have 2 crested ducks and (both female) and one of them is nipping at the others wing feathers until they are bleeding. Since I discovered the behavior I have separated them but they are now upset because they have been together since we goth them as babies. they are now around 2 months old. one is now with our older birds and the other is with the rest if this years chicken hatch. what should I do to correct the problem?

Do you have any Blue kote? paint the ducklings wings with it where the other is nibbling on them this will cover the area. Let them be together. And give them some extra protein Dried meal worms is a good source or cat kibble or Puppy kibble good quality. Just make sure they puppy or cat kibble is small enough for them to eat without choking.

Be sure not to put the duckling whose wings have been bleeding in with chickens they will make it much worse they are drawn to blood.

I got some blue kote and put it on her. I put them back together as well. I just went out and checked on them and I noticed that her bill was stained with it so it made me curious so I checked the other one to see if she had some on her bill as well and she was clean. I'm sure some of it is from grooming herself but it's making me think its self inflicted and the other one was just adding to the injury because she was bleeding.

She must be molting her flight feathers. And they are growing in. Bluekote does not work on Ducks and it rarely works on Chickens either..
Best solution is to separate her till her flight feathers grow in and provide her some dry Cat kibble for extra protein..

I tried it and it has at least stopped the other from pecking at her. I checked them first thing this morning and she seems to be doing better and she has a great purple feather style going on. anyway the bleeding has stopped and all is good for now. thanks!!
