Crested duck?

I just got my ducklings 2 weeks ago. My daughter picked this one and when we 1st got it, we thought it just had a bit of extra fluff on it's head. Now I'm wondering is this a crested duck? I have scoured over images on google and have only come across 1 picture that had feathers coming off the side instead of the top like this one. Has anyone else seen a crested duck with it on the side?

We used to have a male Rouen with a feather comb over like that. He was hot stuff with the ladies!

Based purely on speculation of their vocal attributes I think this one may be a male too. It seems to be the quietest of the 4. Doesn't hardly make a peep when you pick it up and doesn't throw a holy fit about being the only one left behind when they are being transported to or from the bath.

The nice thing about side crests is they do not usually have the problems of top crests where the skull does not close and the brain is exposed.

So are side crests still a defect in the skull or is it just poofy feathers like a birth mark?
