So I have 2 crested ducklings that are about a week old. I’m not sure of their sex yet. I have 9 other ducks, and I planned on keeping them all together once they were old enough. I know that it’s not good if you breed a crested and a crested together. If my crested ducks turn out to be a girl and a boy are they okay to be together? I don’t plan on ever hatching eggs. So if I plan on collecting and eating eggs everyday can they stay in the same pen? I’ve also heard you have to be careful because sometimes when they are mating other ducks could pull on their crests. If both females, should I only keep them with other female ducks? If males should they only stay with other male ducks? If a female and a male do they need to be separated? Again, I don’t want them to breed. I just want to collect eggs daily so I can eat them. So can everyone just stay together? Anyone have any opinions or advice? Any help is appreciated! I bought my two crested ducks from a feed store. They were the only two. I did a lot of research on the breed so I figured I’d rather take them then someone with no information on the breed to take them. I know they need a little bit of special care. I just want what is best for them. Any suggestions?

Can you post pictures of them? I love crested ducks.

Even females will "mate" other females. It's a risk you will have to take. It you don't plan on mating them, you could keep them together. It's just something you will have to wait and see.
You did an awesome job educating yourself.
The best you can do is:
  • keep an eye on all of them.
  • Learn their behaviors.
  • Have backup coops.
  • Know behaviors will change once their hormones kick in during mating season.

Thank you so much for your help! I’m just so nervous, I want to be a good duck mom lol. I hope everyone gets along well. I probably will end up building a large second enclosure just in case, I figure it couldn’t hurt. Thanks again for all your help. :D
