crested ducks?

hello all, we just bought some chickens and the feed store was selling ducks also, we just had to take one home with us because it was so cute. I have no idea what kind of duck this is but I’ve been doing research and I’m just a little confused now. Our duckling is yellow with orange feet/beak and it has a small crest, I honestly didn’t know ‘crests’ were a thing on ducks until now and I’m seeing now that it is a genetic mutation and that my duck is probably a little ‘slow’. Either way I’m in love with the duck and my family loves it so we will give it the best life we can but I would really appreciate any information you can give me. Is a crested duck a specific breed of duck? Or is is basically a Pekin duck that was born with this mutation and they just call it a ‘crested’ duck. Does anyone have experience with crested ducks? Do they all have seizures/abnormalities? Thank you in advance I will attach pictures of this duckling we call Yara

Welcome to BYC! Cute duckling! I have several crested ducks and all of mine are 100% normal.

I believe crested ducks can be any breed. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The best thing for this little one would be another ducky friend of similar age. My ducks are miserable when seperated from the flock.

Tufted Roman geese but it's not the same as a crested duck. Nope never heard of a Muscovy being crested. Crested is man made.

yeah, none of my Muscovies are crested.
