WOW!! That is one HUGE crest. Way beyond what coud be considered a normal size.

Trimming feathers is very common with crested breeds of poultry - unless the intention is to show the duck- there is no reason trimming back some of the feathers cannot be done. I in no way meant to cut off the whole thing- but merely removing some of the excess feathers to allow the duck to see properly and so that the crest does not cause issues with day to day life. Clearly in a case like this- something may have to be done in futute to help this duck. With a crest that large now when the duck is still so young - you will need to pay close attention as it grows.

Whoaaaaa... it's like elephant man... elephant duck. That's insane I can imagine how that would get in his way. I don't know the first think about cresteds because mine are all still ducklings. But wowwww. Enjoy your very unique duck!

Donald(as in Trump) can flip it to either side. Sometimes he plays with it flipping it around. So far the other ducks haven't picked on him because of it.

I had a Bluw Swedish drake with a crest just like this. He lived with my other ducks in the coop and went around the yard and to the creek with them all. I did notice that when the grass was wet or when it rained, his crest would get very damp at the 'bottom' and he walked with butt higher, like it was really heavy.

I considered having my vet remove some of the extra skin to reduce the size of the crest, for his sake and spine/neck health. but i finally decided to just find him a good dry pet home where he'd get lots of special attention. I was just too worried about putting a duck under for surgery & he was usually fine if he was dry.

That is most certainly the largest crest I have ever seen in my life! However it looks like more skin than feathers. I don't think theres a lot that can be done. However i don't think it'll ever become a real issue with his happiness or health if that's what your worried about. Ducks are very adaptive and can find happiness regardless of their situation far easier than we could, especially since he's had this since birth. If it would make you feel better I could post a video of my disabled crested duck, she finds happiness all the time and is far worse off than your little guy.

It does help to know that other ducks have huge crests and are still happy and healthy. It is mostly skin but he still young so I"m not sure what age is going to bring. I hope it stops growing soon. I let him out to play with the other ducks in the pen today for a little bit. It was his first time out there and he had a blast rolling in the dirt. I think it was more because he knew that he would have to take a bath when he got back in the house.
