So I am totally sure I got a creveceoure chicken by mistake, has this ever happened to anybody else [ luckily we didn't need a specific breed and we love her]. I know they are a rare old french breed and endangered and that they lay white eggs and the females are on the smaller side but I haven't been able to find a ton of special info on them anything that is weird or different about them except for their v comb and pretty black crest that I should know? Also, what do you do to keep there poof out of their eyes, we are not planning on showing ours so her hair doesn't have to be perfect but I want her to be able to see well. We already trim her hair when it covers her eyes to much but is there anything else that is not dangerous for her that you recommend? What is your experience with them, are they cold hardy, heat hardy, or fragile, are they prone to any diseases, sicknesses or get cold easily in the rain when their poof gets wet? our creveceoure pullet tilts her head to see out of one eye because her hair grows to the other side more, is there any way to help that? We love her so much but she is a bit skittish, what do your Crevecoeur's act like?
Thank you in advance, any info that I don't already know would help!

I don't know much about Crevecoeurs, but I do know what you could do for her crest. Some people tie them up with hair ties to keep the feathers out of the chicken's eyes.

I don't have a lot of personal experience with them other than seeing them at shows, but similar to polish they seemed to be a little flighty/skittish. Your bird is solid black right? You mentioned a black crest I just wanted to make sure the rest of the bird is too ;D With our polish and silkies we just cut the feathers back, especially on a free ranging bird being able to see is needed :D Never had my polish nor any other chicken get wet from the rain (and I'm in washington!) but not saying it can't happen, and I find my polish more heat tolerant and less cold tolerant, but it's fairly mild here in WA so i may not be the best judge :)

Yes she is all black, thanks for the suggestions

So I did read about putting hair bands in their hair but I was afraid if I did one too tight it would hurt her head and if I did it to lose it would fall off. I also didn't want the other chickens to peck at it and accidentally peck her. but thanks for the suggestion

We always cut our silkies and polish's crest when we didn't show them, had a friend/breeder who kept silkies and tried hairbands one summer and he had a bird that got pecked so hard it had to be separated while healing, probably a freak accident but it scared me! I just cut the feathers (usually pretty short, although our polish is squirrely) and make sure she can see enough to free range with the other girls : )
