Can chickens eat crickets and meal worms? As a treat?

I already order a couple thousand of each each week, would it be ok to feed some to my chickens as well?

Absolutely! Been giving mine each starting about 3 weeks old and they go nuts for the crickets, so much fun for the chicks, not so much for the crickets!

Why don't you colonize your own?? Lots of people do it, it is very easy and you would save a lot of money. I started my mealworm colony a couple of days ago. A $10 investment will turn into thousands being produced by them.

With the amount that I go through sometimes it is just easier to buy them.

I do have one colony going of the mealies it just is unable to keep up. I only pay $5.00 for thousand of them so the price is not too bad.

Same with crickets I go through so many trying to breed them with be counter productive.

Would it be safe to say that is best to feed the crickets and mealies in some kind of a bowl?

I hand feed mine as treats. I can't imagine having that many mealy worms.

I do both actually.

I recently found a semi local place that even with the cost of shipping is is much more cost effective to just order them.

With being a breeder I was able to get on one places "breeder program" which cuts the cost in half if not more depending on the amount bought.

I don't know why I didn't think to check ebay..which is insane for me, even though ebay stinks now..I had to buy them local..not a great deal but I wanted to get started..I wish i could find someplace that cheap!

I brought my chickies some mealworms and crickets home from the pet store. They went nuts over them.
