Crickets

I have my 9 week old chicks in the coop learning that it’s their home base and waiting for the run to be finished. They are doing well, quiet, and happy to see me when I come in. Well at least I think they are happy. I was wondering if it is a good idea to toss in some small crickets as a treat and to keep them active. How many is too many? I have six Rhode Island Reds. They have grit and have been getting some greens as treats

Not if the crickets are fast enough! But nah - a handful of crickets should keep them busy. And free-range biddies eat bugs all day. I don't think a handful of crickets would cause a problem.

I throw mine some freeze dried when they are brought inside, they love to scavenge for them.

Not really, but they're like kids the more they get the less they want so if you're using them as a chicken whistle dole them out sparingly.
