since my move back to chicago, my duckies have been forced to live in a newly made pen in my father's garage while i look for a new suitable apartment fr us. My normally cushy living house ducks have spent most of their time out in their pen and in the yard during the day with their treats/kiddie pool. it's been a few months since i have been able to handle them alot, other than picking them up or quick pets. Today i held each duck for about 10 minutes for some ducky loving and i noticed that my duck victor had a strange sound coming from his belly. It sounds like a crinkling or a grinding noise (kinda like the crunching of a candy wrapper) coming from his tummy. I listened closely to his breathing, and it's not coming from his lungs, but rather lower on his belly, on his left side around here his leg meets his torso. I could feel some movement in that area too, like bubbles or digestion.

So are the noises i heard normal? Is it some part of digestion i've never heard before? maybe the grit grinding up in his tummy? It alarms me because my ducks are house pets that get held often, and before today, i've never heard it before. Any ideas? Or if anyone knows this is a problem, please let me know.

I don't want to take him to the vet if it's a normal part of duckydom and look foolish. He is eating normally, acting normally, etc.

That is normal. If you listened to your intestines you would hear funny things, too!

I bet they are enjoying being out in the yard and pool!

thanks terri! That makes me feel much better. I guess i just never noticed it before. They have been foraging a lot lately so they are probably eating a lot more grit and dirt than normal too. At first they hated the pool and were scared of it, they mostly like it now, especially when there's food or treats in it. lol

My duck is not too well. Took to vet had blood work and it came up low phorosphus. She is eating but not a lot and I heard the growling sound like when we humans ate hungry. What can this be?
