Cripes. I killed my own chick, I can't believe it.

I changed the water in with my new little babies from Cackle, and apparently I set the water container down on a chick and didn't realize it.

I can't believe it.

Of course it died.

I looked in there just in time to see it gasping its last breath.

I only mention this because in case anyone else is as klutzy as me, watch where you put the water jar.

One time I set a metal waterer base down, then put the top/cover down over it and did not see a chook that managed to get its head under the top/cover while I was attaching it. Of course it drowned. I was in the same mind frame as you are about your chick.

So, here is another lesson for us all on the BYC.

To THIS DAY i watch and do scatter the birds away when I install the top/cover of my double walled waterers.

The silkies are the worst when it come to this.

I have learned to put a BIG DOG bowl of water in the barn when I am doing/changing the wateres. The chooks go to this and I am in relative peace to get the water chores done.

i did that last year to a week old barred rock chick. i did head count about an hour later. i heard a muffled ceap. lifted up the waterer and there he was. that is how he got the name flat stanley. he is now 5 months old.

I am sorry. and i know how you feel. It happens and you learn to make sure they are out of the way. you are not the first and i know you won't be the last... Hugs
