I know there was a thread in the chicken section or disabled poultry but I'd like to see some pictures/stories of other animals with disabilities. I have a crippled cat and will post some pics as soon as I figure out how..

Can anyone tell me how to post pics on here? Having some trouble...

This is going to be long -- I apologize. Also remember that I work with an 501c3 rescue, so I get an inordinant number of 'broken' dogs in my home.

The dog in the back (pom) is Freak-A-Zoid. She's blind, mute, and has slipping kneecaps. She was dumped in a shelter when she wasn't good for breeding anymore. The old girl in the front (poodle) is blind and deaf, as well as toothless, and was dropped off in a Walmart parking lot. My rescue got them both last year, and they've been living with my since. They're beautiful little dogs, and some of the sweetest I've ever encountered, but the idea of their genes being passed on makes me SHUDDER.

Lucy -- the Mutt. She's 15, deaf and lame. Another dog dumped at a shelter for being old. Sweet as can be, and very much enjoying having a soft place to retire.

Ducky, the 'pom-chi'. Ducky's got Lupus and no teeth. Yet again, a shelter drop off.

Pepper. Old minpin. He's in heart-failure, managed with meds.

...Aren't you glad you asked?

This is Pepper...I adopted her from Catahoula Rescue at the age of 10 after her owner was in a car wreck and couldn't care for her anymore...the owner's daughter was going to put her down b/c she didn't want her. Pepper has a bad back leg from previously being hit by a car...she doesn't have much feeling in it and therefore rips out toenails if they get too long b/c they drag...she also has arthritis in both hips. She's a real sweetie though and is now 13...she doesn't know how lucky she is to have moved in with a vet.

This is Momma Kitty. I found her on the streets about 5 years ago. She has no teeth, no tail, no feet (both front and back), and can't meow. I have no idea what happened to her. We couldn't really have cats but I didn't have the heart to put her back outside or take to the shelter. This is the only pic I have on the computer and she looks a little creepy. But you can clearly see her back nubs. The other three cats are her sons (Monster, Soda, and Squish). My Momma Kitty is crippled but I couldn't have asked for a better cat. She is so sweet, loves attention, and gives out love like candy. Her lack of feet has not inhibited her movement much. One back "foot" is slightly longer than the other and it makes her kind of hobble from one side to the other. She's the best cat I've ever had and such a good mommy.

This is her with her other son Skibbies. She loves to cuddle and stick her nose in belly fur. Mommy is such a tiny kitty that makes huge babies! In this pic Skibbies is just under a year old and already twice as big as his mom.

back when the boys were little, I found a tiny little black kitten cowering in the middle of heavy traffic. After scooping the handful of black fuzz up, after making a tentative toe tap to see if was alive (MEOW YES), I realized it had no eyes. Vet said it was a birth defect. Kept it for over a year inside the house with our other 2 cats. It raced through the house, did all sorts of the usual kitten things, just crashed when something got moved. Unfortunately, after it kept escaping - it thought it should be an outdoor cat, and yes it was fixed, it shredded the neighbor's boxers who cornered it. These were show dogs. Then, the cat developed behavior problems that combined with the constant running outside, meant we had to take it to the vet to re-home. I hope. So sad. But I had two very small boys and hadn't the extra time/energy/resources to keep the little cat safe enough. His name was Ray Charles, RC for short.
