Heya all!
Basically, recently, around three different pairs of my pigeons are laying three eggs. At first I though it was a bird nest stealing or laying an extra egg in already made nests, but from the single time I've let all three hatch- (I usually remove every egg that's laid regardless but wanted these two parents to have a single baby so they'd get it out of their system and have time off the nest afterwards.)- all three babies have looked exactly the same. Same colour, size, beak shape and everything. So they're related in one way of another, or it's a very sketchy coincidence.
I Googled, and Google said it can happen but it's rare. It's happened 4 times in the past month, not even that long! So if it's rare, I'm hitting the jackpot.
How could this be happening?? And why? Should I be concerned or looking into something specific? What do I do??
For some extra information, I give my pigeons shell grit and cuttlefish as well as a pink mineral powder every now and again, the shell grit and cuttlefish more often than the power. Their eggs are nice and strong, smooth and great looking. As well as my birds, they're all healthy and acting normal. Although I do have one very old pigeon that lacks a bit, and multiple rescue ones that are disabled. But, even though they function a bit differently, they're all healthy and acting within their normal selves. One of the disabled ones is actually the hen that lays three.
(Also as a side note, my birds are healthy and happy despite their disabilities. None of them came to me un-disabled then became disabled. Also not putting this here because I don't trust anyone, but just in case anyone was wondering and/or concerned.)
Anyways, I'm honestly gobsmacked, and have no clue what to do. All I do know is my chickens get an extra egg every now and again, and they love it.
