My 8 year old bantam hen, Bandit, had a crusty nostril (other nostril was clear) when I let her out of the coop today.

No coughing or sneezing from her or my only other chicken, 7 year old Penguin. However, I noticed a few days ago that I could hear Penguin’s breathing when I picked her up, though she didn’t open mouth breathe even after running around so I thought she had a feather or something stuck in her nose. I can hear Bandit’s breathing when I pick her up, too, and I feel like she’s breathing slightly heavier than normal? (Though that could be my imagination.) Bandit’s voice has also sounded a bit hoarser for a while now, but I thought that was due to age/amount of complaining. There’s no other symptoms, their activity level is the same.

The only recent changes they’ve experienced have been a refresh of bedding (pine flakes) and they were dewormed on the 17th. I deworm by mixing their Safeguard dose with crumbles, since they’ll willingly eat it. Their coop/run has pretty good ventilation.

Overall, I’m worried due to their ages and the fact that they probably carry Marek’s.

Might be upper respiratory infection or just dust irritation - especially from the new shavings. If you can hear their breathing that means they are having trouble breathing, especially if it sounds rattly or wheezy.

Thank you for the response! Thankfully I don’t hear any rattling or wheezing. I’m also realizing that I fed the chickens a few of my pigeons’ eggs and that is what the yellow crust on her face likely is… 🤦‍♀️ If that’s the case, this is the 2nd time I’ve overreacted about my old girl’s health. I will monitor and update if there’s any changes.
